Excel Pivot Table using Acess table as data source (2000)

I'm trying to create a pivot table in excel using an access table as the data source. i tried using access because the table is more than the 66,000 thousand or so line that excel allows (the table i'm truing to pivot) is over 300,000 lines). i'm getting an error message that there are too many data combinations. does the 66,000 line limit still aplly even though i'm using access?

There is no limit on the number of rows in the source data, but the number of unique (distinct) items in a row field is limited to 8,000. The Pivot Table Wizard will display an error message if you have a row field with over 8,000 unique items.

Pivot tables have even more restrictive limits. From the Excel help file:

PivotTable reports on a sheet Limited by available memory
Items in a PivotTable report 8,000
Row or column fields in a PivotTable report Limited by available memory
Page fields in a PivotTable report 256 (may be limited by available memory)
Data fields in a PivotTable report 256
Calculated item formulas in a PivotTable report Limited by available memory
