WIN98SE Install Problem with File MSGSVR32.EXE

Can anyone help me overcome a problem I'm having with my Laptop's WIN98SE OS ?

I had a "Stuck Key" problem with my Gateway Solo 3300 Laptop and it took me quite a few reboots before I discovered what had happened @#$%^&

I then opened up the 3300 and unstuck the offending key and tried to reboot

Unfortunately by this time I must have corrupted the bootup somehow and on every occassion the bootup would stick and by doing a Control/Alt/Del I could see that it stuck with MSGSVR32 Not Responding @#$%^&

I've re-installed WIN98SE and find that the bootup still sticks at the same point and when I "End Task" it, I end up with a Blue Screen

Could someone please tell me what is the purpose of file MSGSVR32.EXE and help me find a way to get beyond this point with the re-installation of the WIN98SE OS

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers n Tears

    Some info here at helpwithwindows.com.

I came across several links searching through Google and they all pointed towards different solutions. Is it possible something got dislocated or disconnected when you opened up the laptop? Sounds like it could be a hardware problem.

    Leif

thanks for the tip to look on the Web where I did find some helpfull info !!

However further investigating my MSGSVR32.EXE problem, I've discovered that when I hold down the Control key when I boot-up I get a POST analysis screen which says that there is a ERROR 0210 : Stuck Key 1D

Key 1D as far as I can figure out is the "Left Arrow" key, Correct ?

If this is correct I'm very puzzled 'cos when I get enough of a boot-up, after Cntl/Alt/Del-ing the stuck MSGSVR32.ExE a few times, the Left Arrow key is fully functional

All the other keys also function !!

Could you tell me what Error 0210 is and confirm that key 1D IS the Left Arrow key but if not which key is 1D ??

Hoping you can help me solve my problem

    Cheers n Tears

Can't be sure for a laptop, but I think 1D is the Ctrl key (left one if there are two on the keyboard).

I don't know the error codes - did you try searching (e.g. with Google) for it? Same goes for keyboard codes - absolutely no idea!

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Following some Googling of this truly ancient subject, I believe Alan is correct in assigning the keyboard scan code to the "make" (i.e. the pressing, rather than the releasing) of the Left Control key.

For Error 0210, I find this, and there's a whole lot of stuff on Google Groups if you search for "error 0210 stuck key 1d".

The simplest solution is probably to change the keyboard, if you have a spare -- if that works, you have your bypass...

Do laptops come with spare keyboards?

I don't have a laptop -- but I have added an "external" mouse to one in the past. Are you saying there's no socket for an external keyboard? If not, it's back to the WD40!

No, I'm not saying the Gateway Solo 3300 Laptop has no socket for an external keyboard, I'm suggesting that an external or spare keyboard may be unlikely to be a viable solution under the circumstances.
