Globally Change Contact Display Name? (O2k SP-3 (9.0.6627) WinXP SP-2)

I converted my AOL contacts into Outlook Contacts using Intellisync for AOL and everything came out OK.

I notice in the Contact Name Tab, that Display: is set to First Last Name

I know I can manually change Dislpay: to Last First Name

Is there any way to globally change this from First Last Name to Last First Name for my 600 Contacts?

    Thanks, John

    could not find :

Start with Tools/E-mail Accounts/View or Change Existing Directories or Address Books.
Choose Outlook Address Book and click the Change button.
Select Contacts, then choose File As at the bottom.

On my computer it is the following:

Tools, Options, Preference Tab, Contact Options
Select the order you would like Outlook to use for new names: Last First
Select the default setting for how to file new contacts: Last, First

It seems the above setting effects only new records but not the ones already in the system

    What I

If you mean the display name in the Contacts email fields, you can only bulk change it with VBA code. See the posts in the threads starting with <post#=283844>post 283844</post#> and <post#=325433>post 325433</post#>.

If you mean the Last/First display order in the Address book, Hans is correct for OUtlook 2002 and 2003, but I think in Outlook 2000 and prior you find it as a check box in the menus in the Addressbook under Tools | Options, possibly under Properties? I don't have access to Outlook versions prior to 2002.

Re: Globally Change Contact Display Name? (O2k SP-

When the boss synchronized his Palm to his "new" XP Outlook, it changed the address cards so they are now listed by last name, first name - instead of by company (last name, first name) as they are in his Palm. Is there no way to change this view? He does not like the list view, preferring the address card view. So far nothing we have tried has worked for current records except changing each record's FileAs option which is obviously not a good solution.

(Edited by JohnBF on 25-May-06 14:33. Meant to attach THIS graphic!)
Peggy, starting from the Address card view, see if you can select View | Arrange By | Customize Current View, and then select the sorting method shown in the dialogs in the attached graphic.

That might just do it! The boss went thru and manually changed all his records.

BTW, John, on my version of Outlook, I get to the screen you showed by going View|Current View|Customize Current View. I didn't find any "Arrange By" when I navigated the menus.

    Thank you very much!!!!

Sorry, I was quoting you the Outlook 2003 menus - I don't have access to any earlier Outlook versions.

Sorry that the Lounge was down due to the SMTP problems - perhaps we could have saved your boss some trouble.

    No problem, John.

It was good for the boss to go thru his contacts and clean them up anyway
