sort data to follow a condition? (excel)

Is there a way to sort data under conditions?

I have a bunch of data, but its scattered in my spread sheet. Is it possible to sort the data by reading the last six values of a string

You would have to create a new column or row with a formula using the RIGHT function to extract the characters you want to sort on, and then sort on that column or row.

Say that your data are in A1:A1000 (with possible gaps)
In B1, enter the formula =RIGHT(A1,6)
    Fill down to B1000.
    Select A1:B1000.
Use the Tab key to make B1 the active cell without losing the selection.
Click the Sort Ascending (or Sort Descending if you need that) button on the toolbar.
You can now delete column B.
