    slow dropdown menus (SP2)

A week or so ago the start menu began to open up very slowly and IE favorites began to appear very slowly. Is this a registry setting that I can adjust?
    Computer is otherwise running fine.

    Highly unlikely!

You could try opening Task Manager in the Processes tab to see what programs are being loaded. Or see if there are any System or Application messages in their respective Event Logs which might relate to your startup time problems.

"Something" may be timing out and causing these delays -- but identifying the "something" is never easy. Other people may have brighter ideas...

Where would I find the respective logs?

BTW, right mouse menus are similarly sluggish...

Every troubleshooting starts with trying to find if anything has been changed. Have you installed any program in time before the problem appeared? Or if not installed, have you started to use one already installed?

If you want to take a look at the logs as John suggested; start Event Viewer either by: Control Panel, choose Performance And Maintenance, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, or simply run "eventvwr.msc". Select Application or System log in left pane.

There is an option to change menu speed easily with MS Powertoy: Tweak UI. But I would not be interested in using it, better is to find what is causing this in the first place.

Have you looked at Task Manager?

If you want more pop on your menus open up regedit and search (edit > find) for "menushowdelay" without the quotes. The default is 400, change it to 0 asuming you have a machine with a P3 1GHZ or faster and 512mb ram. If not use 50. There will be 3-5 entries with this name in the registry to change. You may have to reboot to see the effect.

Hmm, MY menus are popping in every way they can. <img src=/S/yep.gif border=0 alt=yep width=15 height=15>. I assume your recipient is tfboni.

Yep, everything is in the registry
