    Windows Server Update Services

If you are using SUS (any flavor) or supporting networked PCs without some sort of software update help check out Windows Server Update Services. This <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> update management software is substantially better than SUS. It must run on Windows 2000 SP4 server or Windows 2003. Supports clients running Win2k Sp3 or later, Win2003, WinXP. From the FAQ: Over time, WSUS will support all Microsoft updates, including ISA Server. However, at release, the plan is for WSUS is to support Windows, Office XP, Office 2003, SQL Server 2000, MSDE 2000, and Exchange Server 2003. See Windows Server Update Services Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

    Re: Windows Server Update Services

I've just installed WSUS on our Windows Server 2003 box, and it took about three hours to load down all the English updates for WS2003 and XP.
sqlserver service uses a LOT of CPU and memory...

All I have to do now is to wrestle with the Group Policy Object Editor to find the PCs I'm sure we had in Active Directory Users and Computers -> Computers!

    Re: Windows Server Update Services

Well, at least it should not take three hours in the future. The Sqlserver service is not used much by WSUS. Good luck with GPO. We are so small I did not have to mess with that. Just got in early one day and went to each PC and installed the AU client update.

I have a GPO question in the Server 2003 forum!
