    Login / Update Details (2000)

    Dear All,

    Looking for some help here.

I have an access database with registrants details name, address, several yes/no fields.

What I want to be able to do is to allow a web page to display the results of a particular record, based on e-mail address entered and maybe even a password. Then the user can see their registration details and make any ammendments to the name/address fields and yes/no fields. Any ideas, can frontpage do this? If not is there another solution?

Thanks in advance for any help / guidance offered.
    Best Regards,

    Luke

The database wizard in FrontPage 2000 could set up a search form and a results page, and maybe add a new record to the database, but I don't think they included any tools to create pages for editing or deleting database records. When I wanted one of those, I had to learn ASP and ADO. It was a slow process.

The wizards in more recent versions of FrontPage might be better, or you might find good code samples on the web.

Tough question for me to answer. Since I had written macros in Word, I was familiar with Visual Basic for Applications. ASP pages generally use VBScript (although you could use other languages), so that part was a relatively easy transition. As for the other details of server-side processing, I had a few books and many online code examples to consult. None of them was a particularly good introduction, but by reading widely, I got a good overview.

Microsoft's ASP resources are extensive, a good place to start is here: MSDN Library > Web Development > Server Technologies > Active Server Pages

Other sites I've found useful include, of course, the Lounge and particularly the Access board for database queries, and this board for more general questions. And from time to time 4GuysFromRolla.com, the p2p.wrox.com ASP forums, and whatever site seems to score high on my latest Google query. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
