Yes , I thought it was rather a neat little program too.

    Alan

I have found this some months after the thread started...

Clicking on the Kool Lite link gives version 1.1, which appears to be the same as the current version. Could this be a hacked version? I can't find 0.4.2 beta...

    Thanks

    John

Same thing, here. Can anybody suggest a link to the free version? I am particularly interested in the annotation features.

    Re: Screen Capture

I suspect what's happened is that the developer asked all distribution sites to pull links/ files for the beta version, and replace them with the shareware version 1.1 - a practice that's not unusual. You can get it from here - actually the absolutely, really, final for sure, last ware version - HandySnap 0.5.3 beta - 1632 kB

    Re: Screen Capture

In case this happens to others: it's interesting that when I tried to access the link, I got a "...403 Forbidden..." message. I tried it twice with the same result (Firefox). Went with IE6 and didn't have a problem; the downloaded zip file seems to be OK. I dunno...

Dunno either Al. Worked fine for me in IE6 too, and installs properly. Sample screenshot below.

(Edited by skitterbug on 18-Dec-05 09:30. Added a PS to my post!)
It gives me the "forbidden message" in both browsers - IE and FF. Guess I am out of luck!

Added later: Whew! I finally got it from this link. It is just a bit different than the link Alan has but it is through the same website. I don't know why I had problems with Alan's link but a search of the website, brought up the name HandySnap and that's how I got to it. And I didn't take any chances, I used IE to accomplish my goal.

pps: I just tried my link and it works in FF.

    Re: Screen Capture

Looking harder at the links, I suspect the site itself may possibly be blocking direct requests to its downloads. This is a fairly common method employed to prevent automated "mass downloaders" from putting a drain on their server's bandwidth. I'm not sure why it's sometimes able to be circumvented though, but other times works as they planned.

    Hi Alan,

At least there was a way around it! And on top of being able to download a recommended good utility, you have pointed us to a very interesting website full of lots of other items that may be fun to try at some point!

    Re: Screen Capture

As someone who hasn't used screen capture software before (I ususally make do with Print Screen and MS Paint) I thought I'd give this one a go; this is going to be really useful. Alan.

    Re: Screen Capture

I use my desktop "extended" across my laptop's buit-in monitor and an attached monitor. HandySnap crashes when I try to capture something from the secondary screen. Otherwise, looks good.
