    Mini-CD stuck in the drive

I put a mini-cd (80mm or about 3 inches) from a digital camera into the cd-rom and now it will not allow me to eject the CD. I can still see the contents of the CD just fine. I have no hole in front of the CD tray to manually eject the CD. I have done a reboot and looked through several settings to see if I could find something to allow me to eject the CD as well. I am using Windows 2000 SP3.

    Thank You for any help,

    Winston

One thing you might try is pressing the eject button during a reboot - i.e. when Windows is NOT running.

Thanks, that worked but just curious on what would cause it to not eject normally though.

Hard to say what might cause this. It could be the beginning of mechanical problems with the drive or it could simply be the disk itself. I've had problems ejecting one particular brand of RW disk (slightly thicker than "standard") and I simply avoid that brand now.

Re: Mini-CD stuck in the drive

As ejecting the disc while Windows is rebooting worked just fine, I have been searching to find another way to eject the mini-cd or why it did not eject. The only other way I have found to eject the mini-cd was to disable the device from the device manager in the control panel and then press the eject button.

I did not find a good reason why the device would not eject except from this post from Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;231814 As their solution did not work it was the closest thing I could find as to what was happening. As the camera's instruction manual labeled the CD port as removable media along with the memory stick (which I will use from now on).

There is NO hole in the front tray panel?
    What brand is it?
I thought they all had the emergency escape feature?

It is a Dell Optiplex G150 tower with two cd-roms, one is a DVD player (LITEON) and the other is CD-RW (NEC), both have no hole. I even took the front of the case off to see if the hole was covered up.

Did you try going to My Computer and right clicking on the CD Rom drive and selecting Eject from the dropdown menu ??

Yes I did, at least from Windows Explorer. Though I am not sure if there would be a difference from My Computer and Explorer on how the eject would work from the dropdown menu.

Do you have any CD-burning software installed on the pc (other than what may come with XP)?

I am using Windows 2000 Professional SP3 with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 (basic) as the only software for making a CD. It was part of the software bundle from Dell when the computer was bought.

That's a neat solution. I'll have to remember that. Probably a lot easier on the mechanism than forcing a paper clip into the emergency eject hole (if there is one <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> ).

Sorry - I was thinking we were in the XP forum!

See <post#=114519>post 114519</post: > - although it is under XP, the answer may be related.
