    Screen Fonts?

Bought a 19" KDS CRT from a neighbor of a friend of mine. He had upgraded to an LCD monitor, and since I was still using a 17" monitor, thought I'd see what more screen could do for me. Figured since the KDS is a Sony Trinitron "under the hood," I should get a good picture.

However, many fonts appear to have "shadows." Running it at 1024 x 768, off the onboard video of my MSI mobo (ATI Radeon Express 200). Been going through the onscreen controls to see if I could find one that might improve things, but no luck so far. Anyone got a suggestion?

Do you have the most current drivers for the video card and CRT?

    Joe,

KDS just says that XP has the best drivers for the monitor, and downloading new drivers from ATI for the Radeon "card" had no effect.

Did you actually see the monitor in action before you bought it? - i.e. is it possible it's a problem with the monitor rather than with the way it is being driven?

    Have you tried deguassing it?

    Leif,

The owner had his Desktop showing when I went to look at it, and I didn't see anything strange about the display then. And yes, it could well be a hardware problem with the monitor.

I don't see a way to do that in the On Screen Display controls. It does have an Auto Calibration that runs almost every time I change a setting.

The only other thing I can think of to look at are the Display Properties > Appearance > Effects settings....

When I switched from Standard to Clear Type under "smooth screen fonts," the "real" fonts seemed to get a little darker, but the "shadows" are still there.
