    Customization (2003)

I want to brighten up some of my form. Can I download styles or textures? Or does anyone have any ideas.

Although there are oodles of free database downloads out there, I don't know of specific downloads for form design. I have one recommendation, though: keep it simple. It may seem fun to use gaudy colors and snazzy effects, but they tire quickly. A plain and unobtrusive design works best in the end.

I can recommend the AUTOFORMAT feature. You can create a style of your own and then save it as an AutoFormat. Then any existing forms or new ones you create can be formatted with that autoformat!

Start in design view by creating the style that you want. Background, control and label colours font colours and section formats! Once done, choose Format | Autoformat. Click customize, and choose option no. 1.

This saves as a new defined style that will appear in the form wizard... or you can apply it to existing forma by going to design view and selecting Format | Autoformat.

The generally perceived wisdom is don't. Textures and jazzy colours detract from the functionality, slow down the operation of the database and take up loads of space. they may look OK with Windows default settings, but if a user is using another skin or colour scheme they can look <img src=/S/puke.gif border=0 alt=puke width=60 height=15> !

This site is a good source of dos and don'ts for Interface Design.

I just want to second what Hans said. Think long and hard before using some busy background on your forms.
