    Upgrading from 2000 (2003)

We are going to be upgrading from Office 2000 (with windows 98) to Office 2003 (windows XP) soon. We have many templates with fill-in fields (where they prompt for information) and Macros that display a dialog box asking for information. What do I need to watch for when converting these templates in Office 2003?

In general, Word 2003 is not all that different from Word 2000, with a few notable conceptions:
    - Mail merge has been completely overhauled
    - Tracked changes and comments have a different interface.
The file type has not changed since Word 97, so there is no need to convert documents.
Most macro code should work without problems, but macro security is tighter. You may want to sign your code with a digital certificate - see for example Microsoft Office Assistance: About digital signatures.

    Re: Upgrading from 2000 (2003)

Thank you, Hans... this firm had an outside consultant (was before my time) develop all their templates and macros in version 2000. This same consultant is now saying if they upgrade to 2003 the templates and macros will all need to be totally redone? Indeed, the one workstation with Office 2003 is having some problems, although I don't know exactly what they are.

The macros certainly won't have to be redone completely - Word 2000, 2002 and 2003 use the same version of Visual Basic for Applications (with some features added in each new version). The code might have to be tweaked slightly, depending on what it does.
