OpenReport Action was Canceled (Access 2003 SP1)

Last week my databases all worked fine. This week if I open any database and try to run any report from a menu I get "The OpenReport Action was canceled". If I try to open one from the database window nothing happens. If I try to open any report in design mode nothing happens. I can run any form and any query, everything else works fine. This is happening with all the databases I have on our network (even on another user's PC ) as well as any on my local hard drive. I have done a compact and repair to no avail. My next step is to have our network administrator restore the databases to last week, although I can't imagine why that would help. Nobody here is "Access Literate" and I'm not too educated on it either... this is a critical time for us and we use these databases extensively right now so I'm going to the experts to see if I can get this fixed faster. Is there someone out there who can tell me why this might be happening and what to do to fix it?

    I would appreciate any help. <img src=/S/crybaby.gif border=0 alt=crybaby width=15 height=15>

If it happened to one report in one database, I would have thought that the report had become corrupt, but since you have the problem with any report in any database, it seems to be a problem in Access, not in the databases. You say you also have the problem on another user's PC - were you logged in as yourself on that PC, or as the other user?

Do you have a printer installed on the pc's ? Access will not open any report if not.
Can you print from other applications ?

We had our old printer replaced last week and I hadn't used any databases until now. Could the new printer be causing the problem? If so, how do I fix that.

He was logged on as himself and tried to access the databases.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by Francois on 22-Jun-05 18:21. Have seen your answer about other applications)</P>Go to Start, Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, View Installed printer and faxes and right click on the new printer. The second option should be Printing preference. If it is Set as default printer, click on this.
You haven't answer if you can print from other applications ?

Ok, if you can print from other applications this seems to be something wrong with Access Like Hans say.

I'd try Help | Detect and Repair from within Access on your PC. There seems to be something wrong with your installation of Access, since others don't have the problem.

Re: OpenReport Action was Canceled (Access 2003 SP1)

The exact same thing has just happened to me: last week all my databases worked - this week I get 'The OpenReport action was canceled' when I try to run reports, and nothing at all when I try to open one in design view. This is happening to all the databases that I try and open on my machine. When I open the same databases from other machines I do not have any problems. I am running Access 2003 (sp2) on Windows XP Pro (sp2). Others on the network are running a mixture of Windows 2000 Pro and XP Pro. Everybody is running Access 2003.

I have tried Compact and Repair from the Tools menu and Detect and Repair from the Help menu, but I still have the problem. I've checked the references in VBA and nothing looks out of place. Because I often dial in from home my PC was left on over the weekend. I had one of those messages when I logged in this morning saying that some kind of update had required a reboot. I can't remember the exact words but I wonder if that is significant.

I have printers installed and I can print to them with other applications.

    Any clues gratefully received.

    Ian

Re: OpenReport Action was Canceled (Access 2003 SP1)

Since you can open the databases on other computers, the problem is not in the databases, so compact and repair will not help.
Since you can print from other applications, the problem is not in the printer either.
So there would seem to be something wrong with your installation of Access. Since you already tried Detect and Repair, try a repair installation.

Sorry Hans, I thought I had said that in my post. Yes I have tried detect and repair.

Oops, just re-read your reply. What is a repair installation?
