    C:\WINDOWS\Connection Wizard\Status\packed1 (Ver 6 / SP2)

    Hello:

    Can anyone tell me what these 3 files do? are they necessary? and more importantly, if it is safe to just delete them?

    Check this page at McAfee - there is a mention of these three files with an .sbr extension. (Have you set your Windows Explorer options to show extensions?)

    If you are not running any anti-virus software, visit one of the many on-line scanners such as Housecall - you'll find a link to it at the top of the index page for this XP forum - and get some AV protection without delay!

    Thank you for your quick reply.

    I do have a virus program installed: called "avast". It indicates no viruses.

    However, I did an online check offered by my isp Earthlink via Symantec which indicated the three files I referenced were infected by W32.Sober.O@mm.

    So I thought the easiest thing to do would be to just delete those files if they weren't needed for the windows program.
