    C drive & 1024 cylinder boundary ( XP Pro SP2)

    Greetings

I am wanting to increase the size of my C drive with Partition Magic 7 but it warns me of dangers in increasing past the 1024 cylinder boundary which I am, apparently, currently up to.
I had hit this when using Win98 but assumed that it was a function of he operating system and that XP would eliminate this. Is this true? My MB is a fairly modern Asus & drive is only a year old 160Gb Samsung. The C drive is FAT32.

    Any thoughts?

It used to be a problem in NT, for system files, but the only snag I'm aware of is if your BIOS doesn't support disks with more than 1024 cylinders. Any motherboard less than five years old should have no problem, I would reckon.

I'm surprised Partition Magic doesn't give you more detail -- maybe it is in The Manual?! (p145 in my ancient copy relating to version 3.0!)

PS "real" DOS has a problem with the 1024-cylinder limit, of course...

    Thanks for the reassurance.

The only problem with buying over the internet with a download is no manual!

I have backed up the C drive onto another partition so if the worst happens I can always put as a secondary drive into my wife's computer & restore from there.

    Thanks again.
