    Java 2 (Office 2003)

Ok, stupid question for you guys......... <img src=/S/stupidme.gif border=0 alt=stupidme width=30 height=30> ..........I installed Sun Java 2 to run a proprietary app on my work system. After I did that, when any office app loads, the main logo at startup changed.......what happened????? I realize it is probably no big deal, but it is rather annoying.......see attachment.........did it change any of the Office functionality. Also, at times I am unable to paste........I copy text, and the paste option is available........but the text is not there. Once I restart Outlook, it will work again.

    Thanks,
    Kathy

That's really, really strange. You might back up and then try Office's Detect and Repair feature.

Did you install the latest Java 2 from Download Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition 5.0? What happens if you uninstall your proprietary app and leave Java alone? What happens if you uninstall Java?

What is the status of the various pieces of software? Did you uninstall your application? Is it still uninstalled? Did you uninstall Java? Is is still uninstalled? With both uninstalled did you repair your Office installation?

    Re: Java 2 (Office 2003)

I uninstalled Java. I then rebooted. The application is web-based, so there is no uninstall. I then repaired the Office installation. Still receiving these start up logos......

    Hi Kathy:
    Go to Start/Run & type
    msconfig
    <enter>

Then go to the Startup folder & see what if anything is loading at startup. Maybe something connected with Outlook is loading.

See the attachment. I did not see anything that is obvious to me.

    Re: Java 2 (Office 2003)

    Hi Kathy:
You might want to check the list at Startup Lists to see if there is anything. Other than that, you might want to run a reinstall on your Office apps. It should do a repair, as it will detect that it's already installed.

If you are running Windows XP or ME you could try a System Restore to a data before you installed the Java app.

I have tried all of the suggestions except this one, and I am leery to do so as this is my business machine, and I would prefer not to upset the proverbial "apple cart".

It appears that it is NOT the Sun Java 2 the problem, are you sure that the proprietary app did NOT do it to your machine?

It also appears that your machine is the ONLY one that this has happened to. I have over 15 machines that I look after and all are running Office 2003 and Sun Java, none of them have this problem.
