    Can't right click on message (XP/ SP3)

    Hi,
Wondering if anyone has had this issue:
One of my users can not right click on messages in their inbox to get the context menu to pop up. This is driving me crazy, and is not fixed by detect and repair or an in place reinstall. Please help if you can.
    Thanks,
    djsp

The right-click "context" menu is the one menu/toolbar that Outlook does not let a user customize. So... it's very odd that a right-click does not work in the Inbox. Does the "context menu key" on the keyboard (usually to the right of the space bar, near the Windows key) work when an item is selected? If so, that suggest a mouse problem.

Thanks for the response. The context menu button does not change what is happening. If an email in outlook is highlighted neither the context menu button, nor a right click will bring up the context menu. Thank you for the suggestion though. I appreciate any help I can get.

Try this. In the VBE (from the Inbox, Alt+F11), open the Immediate window (Ctrl+G) and paste the following line and then press Enter:

    ?activeexplorer.CommandBars("Context Menu").Enabled

Did you get False? If you did, paste the following line and press Enter, and then return to the Inbox to test:

    activeexplorer.CommandBars("Context Menu").Enabled = true

If that works, it doesn't resolve the mystery of why or how the menu got disabled, but at least we would know what was causing the behavior. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

No, I did not get a false response. Sorry.

I came a cross a similar complaint here at PCReview but it doesn't look like they got an answer, I'm afraid.

Well, not a great answer, since it doesn't get me to the root of my problem, but I started outlook using the safemode switch and that fixed the issue. Thanks for all your advice.

In that case see if running the '/nocustomize' switch avoids the problem, as it causes Outlook to load default TBs.
