Monitor Internet Usage (IE 6 SP 2)

    Hi,

Does anyone know how I can monitor Internet usage. I know I can check the history but I want to be able to check for downloaded files etc.

We have a person staying in the house who has been visiting "undesirable" sites and downloading some pretty heavy stuff. He has now been told not to do this. I don't want to remove his internet access or otherwise lock down the computer, but as this is his second warning, any further indescretions will result in me doing just that.

    Cheers

    Karen,
There are a number of programs available to monitor web useage. Some free or free trial, some for a small fee. You can google "monitor internet browsing" to check them out.

One available for free 30 day trial before paying is WEB MONITOR

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

    Hi Karen,

Another way to skin this cat is to use the Windows Search utility to find all files created during a day. I found the following here.

    Finding Files or Folders
From the pull-down menu, select Tools / Find
In the following dialog box you have quite a lot of options in selecting the files to search for.
To Search by Date Modified, you can specify
All Files regardless of date (the default setting
    All Files between two dates
All Files created during the previous months or days
    Advanced Options You can specify:
    Search by Registered File Types
    Files that contain Certain Text
    File Size
Once you are done with a search you have several options of what to do with the results.
Go to the directory where the file is located (File / Open Containing Folder)
Send To a Drive (File / Send To)
Save the search results to the Desktop (File / Save Search
There are several other options available. Click around and experiment
