Right-click an empty part of the task bar and select Toolbars from the popup menu. Which toolbars are listed, and which ones are checked?

That's spyware, alright. Read Anti Adware, Spyware, Hijack.

Download and install Ad-Aware SE Personal (free), then run it. It will hopefully get rid of it.

    HansV,

I have had this little problem a week or so ago and Ad-Aware did not kill it off. I had to use
Microsoft Anti Spyware to get rid of the little bug.

    Re: oh, oh..

Thanks for the tip! I found a newsgroup thread specifically recommending AdAware to get rid of this nasty. It has been mentioned before in this forum that it's best to use a combination of anti-spyware programs: what one of them may miss or be unable to repair, the other may be able to handle.

    HansV,

I found that out the hard way a while ago. I an using the following
    Ad-Aware
    Sypbot Search and Destroy
    Sypware Blaster
    MS Anti Spyware
    CWShredder
    a2hijackfree
    HijackThis

You know what I was thinking, we should have a spot somewhere in each section "like Spyware - AntiVirus - Safe Computing" where we have a list moderated with all the different links that people have sent in like the list above for people to go through to get different things.

The Star Posts in this forum do that, more or less. They can be found easily by clicking the "Other Star Posts" link below the Lounge menu.

The star post index is a great way to look but it is still a little cumberson. if it was distilled down to just specifics unsted of the threads that might make it a lot eaiser to use.

    Re: oh, oh..

I think that would be difficult to implement - such a post would tend to grow over time, until it became so large that somebody would ask for a summary, which in turn.... etc.

    Re: oh, oh..

Could it not be 1 post per forum that is edited by the mods
    something like this

    <table border=1><td>Name</td><td>Desc</td><td> Ad-Aware SE </td><td>Anti-Sypware </td><td> Spybot S&D </td><td>Anti-Sypware </td></table>
Just and idea that way all there programs that are brought up time and time again are in 1 list.... I am not good at making the tables yet (this was my first time). Maby even a 3rd colum for a link to a Tutorial

What the Mods like is for a highly motivated Lounger, such as yourself, to create the table, and then we star your post. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> But seriously, all discussion boards face the question of whether there should be "sticky posts" or a "board FAQ" or some other device to collate valuable information in an easy-to-find place. While we don't do either of those at the moment, someday we might... the problem, always, is time. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    Re: oh, oh..

We tried sticky posts once, but it got completely confusing and we came up with star posts as an antidote. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15> There doesn't seem to be any one "best" method, and this is entirely a volunteer site, so we don't have a lot of time for experimentation.
