Sort Program List (XP; SP2)

I have XP Pro on two different machines (laptop & desktop). On the laptop I can sort the program files by selecting Start>Programs and then right clicking and choosing "Sort by Name". I can not perform the sort by name on the desktop. I can not locate the "Sort by Name" option when I right click using the desktop.

Is there some type of setting that I need to change?

Should be a selection when you right click on the desktop and hover on 'Arrange Icons by'

From my reading of his post, I think John means 'desktop' as opposed to 'laptop', not the desktop on his pc.

He seems to be missing the 'Sort by Name' menu item within Start > Programs .....

Do you get a popup menu at all when you right-click? If not:
- Right click the Start button.
- Select Properties.
- Click the Customize button.
- Activate the Advanced tab.
- Check the option "Enable dragging and dropping" in the 'Start menu items' list.
- Click OK (twice).
