    Maximum table size (Word XP\2003)

Are there any limits to tables in Word, such as: number of cells, columns or lines, number of characters in the table, number of pages long, or any other limitations?

According to <!mskb=211489>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 211489<!/mskb> you are limited to 63 columns, and a total width of 22 inches, but there are no arbitrary limits on numbers of rows or cells.

    Hi Mordy

Operating parameter limitations and specifications in Word shows a couple of limitations for tables.

Number of columns in a table: 63
Maximum page width and table width: 22 inches

There may be other limits but I do not know them.

Re: Maximum table size (Word XP\2003)

I recall a post from a few years ago that suggested that there was a practical limit beyond which the file might get corrupted. I have a friend who was nearing or perhaps exceeding that limit and starting to run into problems. It may have been something like 2000 or 3000 rows. That would have been an older version of Word but I don't recall how long ago this was.

    Thanks.

I have two files with big tables one with over 2000 rows and the other more like a catalogue, both are acting Strangely , their borders bouncing here and there, the text wrapping changing etc. All I Tried didn't help.

    Mordy,

Maybe one of our gurus can find the post; I tried do a search before responding before but 2 or 3 screens of matches didn't even get even get me back to 2004. I'm sure it was either by Charles Kenyon or Phil Rabichow since they were ones to find these kinds of things. It's got to be 2 years or more. The thing that I recall very clearly was that it was a row issue that started to corrupt tables since I advised my friend around that time to maybe switch her data to Access (the table was just a DB). What I don't recall for sure was the row count that Charles/Phil said was the land of no return.
