    usb speed notification (Windows XP)

I have 3 computers with XP Pro - one is SP1. None of them have a USB 2 port.

When I connect my jumpdrive or my external HD, on two computers I get a message saying I have connected a USB 2 device to a USB 1 port and blah blah blah!

Both the jumpdrive and the HD are USB 1.1 compatable and work properly except for the speed.

I have gone into the taskbar properties and set the notification to never, but I still get the messages.

The computer that does not display the message accepted the setting and has never displayed it since. It is not the SP1 computer and it has exactly the same updates as the other computer that does display the messages.

How can I stop the messages?

    thanks

What is different (Hardware wise) between these machines including make, model and etc?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Is the other machine SP-2? That would mean it is substantially different software. I'd recommend that all the PCs have SP-2 plus at a minimum all security updates since SP-2 was released.

The computers are different hardware - one is a P4, one is a celeron 400 laptop and the other, that does not have the problem, is a celeron 400 desktop.

None have SP2. Only one, the P4, has SP1 at this time.

I would upgrade to SP2 and then it could also be a BIOS issue.

I'm not sure if this will work or not but it's worth a look.

Right click My Computer, click Properties>Advanced> error reporting.

Check "disable error reporting" and Un check "but notify me if an critical error occurs".

No, it did not work. This seems to be for software only.

The USB devices work fine otherwise - just the annoying notifications.

    thanks
