Jump Drive not being recognized (Win XP)

Up until 2 weeks ago I could connect my jump drive to a usb port and it would come up immediately. Now suddenly I get nothing - I have to re-boot for the drive to show up in My Computer.
If I click on the icon for safely removing hardware, the drive shows up correctly as the E: drive. After I reboot, it shows up correctly as the E: drive.
We have no new software or any updates for Windows that were installed - that I know of .
    Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    itconc

You could try the Microsoft Autoplay Repair Wizard. It may help and won't hurt.

On my system, I sometimes have to hit F5 in Windows Explorer to refresh, before my USB drive will show up. Just a thought.
