    Add to Favorites (MSO 2003)

Is the ability to add folders to the side panel of the Open/Save dialog box an Office Add, or is Ti supposed to be part of XP-Pro?

I thought I always had it before, but now (prior to my MSO install) it doesn't seem to be there...

Chuck, this is a bit confusing. If you are referring to the Open and Save As dialogs in Office itself, you can add folders from within those dialogs by selecting the target folder, then using the Tools drop-down menu, then Add to "My Places". For dialogs outside of Office, the method may be different. As far as I know, no add-in is needed for Office, although it might speed the process and provide additional management tools.

Those I recall... I just thought (wrongly) that the same aspect was available outside of Office... As my daughter says: "Sorry, my bad."

You can customize the My Places bar in the Open and Save dialog for non-Office applications, but not within the dialog itself. The easiest way is the free TweakUI utility from Microsoft. You can download it from Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP.

    Hans:

Yes, that helps some... But it was the method within Office that I had recalled: where you could place any folder on the side panel... Also shrink the items down to allow for more...

    Thanks,
    Chuck

Using TweakUI, you can add any folder by typing its path if you choose Custom. But it is limited to 5 places, and there is no option to select small icons. Those features are specific to Office.

You could have a look at the Places Bar Wizard , which lets you add as many icons as you like, and also allows you to create different groups of icons for each Office application.

But Chuck wants to customize the non-Office version of the places bar...

    Don:

Although Hans is right, this certainly is an improvemnet over the built-in offering...

    CGood get...
