    Login failure

I have three PCs connected as a home network as a Windows XP Workgroup. One of the PCs just underwent a hard drive replacement, and with the new drive, I'm having a "permissions" problem. From the PC in question, I can "see" the other PCs in the workgroup as expected. However, from the other PCs, I cannot see the PC in quesiton. It appears when I expand the workgroup, but when I try to connect, I get an error. The message is The PC is not accessible. You do not have permission to use this network resource: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at the computer."

I am sharing exactly as I did previously; in fact, I have screen shots of all of the settings and have set things accordingly. I have tried turning the Windows Firewall off, with no success. When on, File and Printer sharing is checked.

Any ideas what could be responsible for blocking access?

    Thanks,
    Richard Barrett

    What firewall are you running?

Remember that if you turn OFF a third party firewall, the SP2 firewall will kick in.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I had windows firewall turned off, with Norton AV worm protection turned on. I have since turned off NAV worm protection AND the windows firewall, but I still have the problem.

What firewall do you have running on the other 2 machines?

If you are ONLY running the MS SP2 firewall, get a GOOD one, see other threads about which to use. AS one will find out, you can only turn off the MS firewall by using a third party firewall. You may think that you have turn off the MS one, but it will still be running until you have one installed.

Have you turned ON the file and printer sharing?
