Disk is full error (Word XP SP3)

    HI

Im working on a Word template - file size = 1,188KB..
I add my code and hit save> the result is the error message appears "...Disk is Full..."

I noticed that in the same directory as my template there is a .tmp file thats been created and the file size is 158,439KB.
Once I delete this .tmp file I can save my template. Obviously my template is corrupt -therefore I have to clean it up.

Any one else seen this before?
    many thanks Diana

I haven't seen this. There was a problem in Word 97 with extremely large temp files if you added lots of styles to a document, but this isn't mentioned for Word 2002.
You can try the VBA code cleaner from Combatting Template Bloat on the Word MVP site.

Did you rename a UserForm? I've had that trigger the "disk is full" error several times. Also see <!post=this thread,170855>this thread<!/post>.

Re: Disk is full error (Word XP SP3)

I have this in WordXP. The Code Cleaner is something I run regularly, but that alone does not seem to be a complete solution.

    I resolve the situation by
    (1) Exporting all source modules using Code Cleaner
    (2) Reloading word with a fresh template
    (3) Importing the source templates and finally
    (4) rebuilding toolbars, buttons etc. maually.

I believe that the residual problem is related to graphic objects within the (corrupted) template.

It may seem like a lot of work to rebuild a template, but it is less time than time spent struggling to get the darn thing to load and to continue a stable life

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for that.

Yes I created a new template & copied the forms & modules across into the new template.
However the new template is now also corrupt.

I'll now go through and apply your suggestions & see how that goes.
    again many thanks

I can do better than that: I've seen it again!.

Add "Missing references within project" to the list of potential causes.

I have a macro processing a batch of documents. It baulks at a document with broken references. I fix the references (by unchecking the boxes), save the document, and rerun the batch. The process no longer baulks with the "Disk is full" error message.
