    Conditional parameters (Access 2000)

Is it possible in a query to have a parameter prompt that is only used if a certain condition applies, e.g. if another field has a certain value, otherwise no criterion is applied? If so, is it possible to have alternative parameter prompts that are used depending on the value of another field; e.g., something along the lines of If [Condition] = "X" Then [Parameter prompt 1] Else if [Condition] = "Y" Then [Parameter prompt 2] (Else default no criterion)?

Not in a query. Parameters are part of the structure of the query, so the only way to vary them is in code, by creating the SQL on the fly.
