Microsoft AntiSpyware version 1.0.615 is available from Download details: Windows AntiSpyware (Beta). It claims to resolve the signature update issue.

    Re: MSAS update

In the last week or so, I have been having serious slow down issues that I finally resolved by closing out MSAS. As soon as I closed it, performance on my system returned to normal. Call it up again, and performance plummets. Just disabling the active agents was of no help, MSAS had be be closed. I was hoping this latest update would help - no go. So I have prevented MSAS from loading at startup for now.

Does the Task Manager point to MSAS as the culprit? Have you checked the MSAS newsgroup?

That's the odd part - nothing was showing up as a problem - no errors in Device Manager and nothing stealing CPU cycles showing up in Task Manager. SpyBot, AdAware, MSAS, Trojan Hunter, Norton AV, CWShredder, a

It is really strange that nothing showed up anywhere. Did there happen to be an inordinate amount of disk activity? I guess I'd try uninstalling it, downloading the most current version, and reinstalling.

Thinking the same way, I did just that.

Disk activity was normal. At first I thought it was an NAV or ZA issue as the most noticable performance hit was opening web pages - 15 - 20 seconds to open www.google.com, when behind a cable modem, is not good. Same with Netscape 8.0 and FF.

As I said, I was wrestling with it for several days - the only changes were signature/definition and Windows updates - no new apps, drivers, or HW.

I see there's a new version of MSAS out today (1.0.615) - I will try that.
