    Dumping Word..... (XP Professional)

I got used to Win98SE where you had wordpad and notepad....simple, did what they were supposed to do, and finished.
I now have Word and Office, and just can't adjust to all Word's "features" that just get in my way. If I uninstall Word, would it leave behind something like
Wordpad, or wipe out the whole utility?
Just experimenting to make things easier for my aging brain.
    Thanks for past help.

Notepad and Wordpad are part of Windows, not of Office, so you can uninstall Word/Office and still use Notepad and Wordpad.

As Hans said, both are part of Windows, so nothing will change if you uninstall Word or the entire Office suite of programs. But I would have to wonder why you would want to unless it was interferring with your work or causing problems or you just didn't have the space for it. But if you just don't like it, simply stop using it. You never know when you might find a need for the extra functionality and flexibility Word offers or have need to create a presentation, spread sheet or data base. You had it right when you said I "just don't like it".
It seems that every task that i used to do in 10 minutes either takes much more time, or gets screwed up.
I'm not blaming Microsoft, but I think I just need "Microsoft-Light".
I'm retired and this is a hobby, so I don't have elaborate things to present.
I do appreciate the concern, and I haven't uninstalled them yet, but it's comforting to know that I can without losing what I really use.
You guys are terrific, and we newbies depend on you. Thanks again.
