Append query (Win XP Access 2003)

I am using the Product Details table from the Northwind sample data base. I created the table History with a Make Table query with Order ID < 10251. The fields selected were the * to show all fields, and OrderID selected but not shown. OK. Then I changed the query to a Delete query and removed OrderID's <10251. OK. Then I changed the query to an Append query, with OrderID < 10254.

Trouble. I get an error message saying "Duplicate output destination OrderID." There are no fields < 10254 in the History table.

If I replace the * with the individual fields, the append works OK.

What is wrong with my procedure?

Re: Append query (Win XP Access 2003)

When you change a query into an Append query, Access tries to fill in the Append To row automatically. It will have entered TableName.* under *, and OrderID under OrderID. Since OrderID is included in *, it is now specified twice. Solve it by simply clearing the Append To entry under OrderID.
