    Reply w/ Attachment (Outlook2k3, win2k)

I don't know if its something im doing... or if its a known bug, but when i get read reciepts from regular emails, occasionally the TOP most email in the email list shows the little paperclip icon denoting an attachment. the emails i send don't usually have attachments, and it happens often. anyone know why this happens?

I'm confused - is it the regular message replies that have the paperclip, or the read receipts? Do you force all messages to be read in plain text (Tools | Options | E-mail options | Read all standard mail in plain text)? If so, it may be that graphics embedded in HTML messages are being displayed as attachments in plain-text view. But it could be something else.

    sorry john, i wrote that when i first got in this morning before i had my <img src=/S/coffeetime.gif border=0 alt=coffeetime width=32 height=48>

the read receipts have the paperclip. And no, my settings don't force it to be read in plain-text view, also no graphics of any kind are involved. any other suggestions?

it doesn't really bother me... i was just curious as to why it was appearing.

nothing, there is none- theres nothing to open, its just a read receipt. infact the paperclip disappears after a while, like after i get new emails and close and reopen OL or minimize it or something.

edit: i'll take a screen shot next time i notice it.

Interesting, I don't get any attachments, you don't always get attachments. I suspect that these are HTML messages with a background "stationary" file. Open the receipt and see if the format is HTML. If it is, select Edit | Edit Message, and then select Format | Backgound | Picture - if the dialog box has a GIF reference, I think that's all it is.

    Re: Reply w/ Attachment (Outlook2k3, win2k)

Do you get the attachment icon from people on the same server as you, or is it from a specific email host, (AOL, GMail, Yahoo!, etc..?) I've recieved those as well, when emailing to something other than another Outlook user. Maybe there's some "stupid" annoying bit of code or something inserted upon reply to indicate it's a reply, and shows up in outlook as an attachment?
