    Tasks in Calendar (MSO 2003)

Is there a way to have tasks reflected in the Calendar? Mine don't... They show on the Tasks...

See if the second part of <post#=453623>post 453623</post#> helps, post back if not.

    John:

I know you can, in some views, show the tasks list...

But is there any kind of way to "integrate" each day's tasks into a day's listing... Especially, say in the month view?

    Regards,
    Chuck

Re: Tasks in Calendar (MSO 2003)

Are you referring to Outlook Today, or to a particular folder? The various views for a particular folder generally show items only from that folder. Outlook Today can reach into more folders, but programming it is apparently quite involved (based on seeing the documentation and NOT trying it myself).

I wonder whether you could do it with an Outlook 2003 search folder? Have time to try? Create an Advanced search spanning your appointments and contacts, save as a search folder, then try to apply a custom view to it. Does it work?

    John:

Too bad... That way I could have *one* list of my ToDo for any given day instead of an amalgam from two or three areas...

    Sigh... Thanks though.

Re: Tasks in Calendar (MSO 2003)

I had assumed that Chuck wants his tasks to show in standard Calendar View, so was looking at a narrower definition.

One possibility would be a Outlook Startup event macro that created an all day event for today that listed tasks that are incomplete and due within the next 'n' days.

That's one I'll try... Haven't done a lot with Search folders, so I'll have to limp along...

    I'll let you know...

    Jefferson:

Outlook Today gives me my "status" of events... But I can't edit from there. So, for instance, If I see that I am supposed to go to the doctor at 9am today, and I want to switch the time, I have to switch over to the Calendar.

In Calendar now, I can change appointments just by electing and editing... I was just looking to be able to do that with my tasks as well... Where they would show up on the day due, not over on a separate listing.

That way I would have my own Outlook Today, that I cold actually monitor to Outlook This Week, or Outlook This Month...

    Regards,
    Chuck

Are you sure? I can double click a Calendar item or a Task listed in Outlook Today and it opens for editing.

In poking around with Outlook Today, I remember why I had shied away from it: It shows *all* tasks... Even those that are done... Something I had tried before to alter but could not...

Re: Tasks in Calendar (MSO 2003)

you can click on "Customize Outlook Today ..." and limit Tasks to "Today's Tasks" with or without "Tasks with no Due Date", but that's it.

Jefferson was suggesting some different approaches than I was. There isn't even a 3rd party add-in that will show tasks as a special kind of Calendar item - it's a nice idea though.

But why no one ever thought of or needed a list without the tasks that are already done is beyond me...

Probably because Bill and the Microsofties are all obsessive-compulsives like me, who delete completed Tasks.

Do you want to try for some code that will stick non-completed tasks in an All-day Event when Outlook is started up each day (assuming that it is restarted every day)?

    John:

The time I tried doing it that way I found myself pawing through scraps of paper madly looking for phone numbers I had received relative to a series of appts.... And never did find...

From then On I've kept it all... Archiving is a good deal lest bothersome and costly than losing some info you need later...

Where the heck did I put Gates's number... I had it here somewhere... He'll understand....
