    ole errors and Outlook (outlook2003)

I am attempting to do some Outlook automation using visual foxpro. I have done it before but suddenly, this machine, winxp sp1, keeps coming back with module name not found when I try to run the line

    olApp = CREATEOBJECT("Outlook.Application")

This happens with Visual Basic and VFP so I suspect something is up with my Outlook installation.
I have tried the repair installation with the MS OFFICE cd but that did not work.

    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Many thanks

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge.

Could you try if you can start another Office application this way?

    Dim obj As Object
    Set obj = CreateObject("Word.Application")
    MsgBox "Success!"
    obj.Quit
    Set obj = Nothing

    You can also try Excel.Appllcation.

Both the excel.application and word.application versions work.
    But not the Outlook.application.

Thanks, we now know it's not a problem with OLE/Automation itself.

It is possible that security software such as an anti-virus program is blocking programmatic access to Outlook. You could experiment with temporarily turning off script blocking or the like, or even turning of all virus protection. You may want to shut down your internet connection while doing this, and don't forget to turn it back on!

Actually, come to think of it... I actually removed Norton Internet suite the day before this all started... I wonder if something is left behind.
Any Ideas of an easy way/place to check?

You can take a look at the Processes tab of the Task Manager, but most PCs have so many processes running nowadays that it's hard to know what's what.

You can also download and install the free utility Autoruns. It provides a comprehensive overview of processes/applications started automatically on your PC.

So I was looking through my registery and found nothing. I ran autoruns and found nothing. So I took a chance and reloaded the Norton Internet suite. Guess what... the outlook problem is gone. I don't know what they are setting or installing but it works. I wish I knew what they did, but for now, hey its working.

    Thanks for all your insight

    Tony
