Address book alphabetical only by first name

Office XP: Outlook 2002. Have no problem making my contacts all in alphabetical order by LAST name. But the address book wants to stay ordered by first name! I've tried for hours to make it sort properly. Of course, autocomplete only wants to complete on first names now! And the address book is what opens when I click it on the taskbar. Please tell me how to fix this!

I have exactly the same problem in Outlook 2000, and I've spent a lot of time trying to fix it -- without success!

    For Outlook 2000:

Which Address Book displays first when you click the Address Book button? Mine displays our GAL, which I cannot change.

If it's Contacts, then you can use Tools/Services. On the Services Tab, choose Outlook Address Book and click Properties. At the bottom of the dialog box that comes up there are options for "Show Names By". The default is First/Last, so just change it to File As.
