    Can't find tilde (Excel 97)

This is not earth shattering, but I was surprised to discover that Excel can't find a tilde. What I mean is if you have a ~ in a cell, and use the Edit Find command and in the "Find what" box you enter a ~, and then press Find Next, nothing happens.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

Re: Can't find tilde (Excel 97)

Tilde has a special meaning in the FIND box, it is used to be able to find special characters like the wild cards * and ?. It says to treat the next character as the character as the character to find, not a special character. Therefore, to find a tilde, type two tilde characters in a row.

Well thank you very much. My mistake was to search the help files for Find, when I should have been searching for tilde.

    Thanks again,
