    decoding .dat files (xp)

    I have received some email attachments in .dat format. How can I read them?

    Were they called Winmail.dat?

    Np. The have the form xxx.dat. They contain text and graphics.

    In that case, you'll have to ask the sender what application should be used. The .dat extension is not associated with a specific application the way .xls is associated with Excel, so it could be anything.
