    Sharing macros (Office XP SP3)

Does anyone know of a way to easily share macros? Our Macros are regularly updated and need to be readily available for others to use. Can you export/import, or save to a location, etc. Ideally, the updated macro could simply be grabbed from a network share or something and used in whatever workbook a user wanted to use it in. Thanks in advance.

You can store the macros in an add-in (.xla), and make the add-in available on the network. Users will be able to install the add-in (Tools | Add-Ins...)

(W)MVP <!profile=Pieterse>Pieterse<!/profile> has an excellent guide to creating an .xla on his website: Create Addins.

    Hi,

there is also the possibility to export and import Userforms and Moduls as files (*.bas)
Open the VBE, right click on the Module or Userform .......

I am quite sure that this can be done automatically, but that is beyond my knowledge.

Re: Sharing macros (Office XP SP3)

Thanks guys...I got the part about creating an add-in, but how do I make it available to use? I copied the .xla file to the Cocuments and SettingsusernameApplication DataMicrosoftAddIns folder, and the add-in is listed, but when I check it, nothing happens, and the macro is not listed in the macros section. So I have the add-in checked, but now what? Thanks.

The macros in the add-in aren't listed, but you can run them by typing the name in the Tools | Macro | Macros dialog.
The proper way to make a macro available is by assigning it to a custom menu item and/or custom toolbar button and/or keyboard shortcut. Pieterse's article has details.
