Deleting hidden text

I keep a detailed resume in Word 97. The file contains lots of hidden text which are just notes to myself about various projects described in the resume. Occasionally, I want to email a copy of my resume to a colleague or potential client, but would naturally like to delete all the hidden text before I do so. Word Help merely says to "delete the hidden text like you would any other text." But I've got snippets of hidden text all over the document, and would prefer a one-step, fool-proof way to delete all the hidden text before re-saving the file under a different name. I don't see a way to specify hidden text with the "replace" feature. Anybody have any ideas?

Re: Deleting hidden text

I hate when this happens! I mess around with a problem for what seems like WAY too long, then decide to post a message to the entire world asking for help, THEN I figure it out! If anyone is interested, I came up with the following method for deleting all the hidden text in a document:

1. In the document, click Edit-Replace.
2. Check the box that says

Hi,

In some sensitive documents with hidden text prompts, we delete the hidden text as part of the "File Save as" routine- see attachment.

Re: Deleting hidden text

Hi Richard:

Don't feel bad. What's worse than finding the answer after you've asked the question is not getting one at all. Or even worse, a problem corrects itself & you never know why (then you live in fear that it'll return).

Anyhow, just FYI, you can do an easier Find/Replace
1. Ctrl+H bring up Replace dialog.
2. DON'T check "use wildcards"
3. In Find, don't type anything. Go directly to Format/Font/hidden
4. Then do a replace all (there should be nothing in the replace box).

Also, here's a macro I got from Allen Wyatt's WordTips Newsletter:

Sub HiddenStrip()
'
' HiddenStrip Macro
' Macro created 9/17/00 by Phil Rabichow
'
Dim rngsStories As Word.StoryRanges
Dim rngStory As Word.Range

On Error GoTo NoDocOpen
Set rngsStories = ActiveDocument.StoryRanges
On Error GoTo 0

'Need to loop through all 'stories' to
'remove hidden text from footnotes, headers,
'etc. as well as body text.

For Each rngStory In rngsStories
With rngStory.Find
.ClearFormatting
.Font.Hidden = True
Call .Execute(vbNullString, False, False, False, _
False, False, True, wdFindContinue, True, _
ReplaceWith:=vbNullString, _
Replace:=wdReplaceAll)
End With
Next
Exit Sub
NoDocOpen:
End Sub

Hope this helps.
