favicon (6/SP2)

I enjoy keeping the favicons in Favorites and Links and have even gone to the 'trouble' of copying those favicons from the Temporary Internet files folder to a sub-folder under 'My Documents.'

I'd like to know how to change the default location from c:windowssystem32url.dll to c:my documentsmy favicons so that whenever I change an icon I can go directly to the folder where they're stored rather than navigate to it.

Any ideas?

It is not one that I have tried but many people recommend using FavOrg, a freeware utility, for this.

My last resort slution in cases like this is to set up a shortcut in c:windowssystem32 to c:my documentsmy favicons. Even with the built-in search filter, it should still show up. HTH

That looked promising and hopeful, but my right-click to create a new shortcut in the system32 folder came up wanting [img]/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif[/img]

How do you do it?

Try going to My Documents and right-clicking on the Favorite Icons folder. Then cut and paste the shortcut into the System32 folder. Seems to work for me.

Different technique, same result:

<hr>The file c:windowssystem32IEicons.lnk contains no icons. Choose an icon from the list or specify a different file.<hr>

And, yes, that folder is full of *.ico files.

Sorry, I think you read far too much into my original post. The shortcut gives you one-click access to the folder with your icons - no more, no less. HTH

Thanks for the clarification... what I'm trying to do is set up a direct link (?) in the right-click | Properties of a generic IE icon.

Right now, when I want to change an IE Icon, I right-click on the generic icon, choose Properties, Change Icon..., and am met with icons in this default path C:WINDOWSsystem32url.dll

I'd like to change that path to Cocuments and SettingsScottMy DocumentsMy IE Icons

(Wonder if Hans will tell me I can't do that <g>)

Yes, I know that's what you want to do. As Hans has already said (and I agree with him), there does not seem to be any way to do that.

So, I guess, the shortcut method you mentioned doesn't actually work, or did I miss something?

You originally wanted not to have to click through folders to get to your fav icons folder. We have both told you that that is not possible -AFAWK. The suggestion I made enables you to click ONE time to get to your fav icons folder - instead of the default of (at least) THREE. You have every right to right-click on a shortcut. I'm not at all clear why left-clicking is not acceptable for you.
