values not written to registry (xp professional)

I have a program that writes default values to the registry, but the values are not being written. I am the administrator for this computer and there are no other users.

To quote their help line "This process writes the maximized state to the registry. If you do not have read/write ability to the registry, these steps will not work and the program will continue opening in a minimized state until the registry entry can be written."

any suggestions as to why the values are not being written to the registry?
    Thanks.

Are running XP SP-2? Is the program compatible with XP and particularly SP-2? Did you use Regedit and check to make sure you have permissions for the key being written?

Running XP SP-2, with updates current.
I do not know specifically if the program (Grapher) is compatible, but as it is Version 6 which was released last month, I would presume so. I'll check with the software company.
I've used regedit a couple of times, but am not sure how to check permissions. As Administrator, wouldn't I have "full permission"?

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Using regedit navigate to the key then right click on the key and select permissions. Just to make sure, this is during program execution and not installation correct?

    Yes, during program execution.

I have permission for all HKEY... root directories.
