Red X's in place of Pictures (IE 6.0)

Can anyone possibly explain why someone would get the dreaded "Red X" when trying to look at websites with GIS maps (on county auditor sites)? Is there a setting on IE that needs to be reset? My fiance recently had a trojan virus problem and had to have his computer reformatted and he's noticed the problem ever since. Any help would be greatly appreciated as he is a home appraiser and desperately relies on auditor and MLS (realtor) maps for work.

He's tried to look at "Tools", "Internet Options", "Advanced" tab, "Multimedia" section, see if "Show Pictures" is checked and it is. Could it be something with hispop-up blocker? His buddy just installed a super-good pop-up blocker, but he set it to allow those sites and it still didn't work.

    Thanks in advance!

Perhaps your fiance needs to install the Java Runtime - see Download Java software for Windows from Sun Microsystems.

Your friend also could add the site's URL to the Trusted Sites list, in case his rigorous security settings for the Internet in general are blocking something that the site needs to do. (Usually the HTTPS checkbox under the site list can be cleared, that is, unchecked.)
