    password

We have purchased a computer form a company that went out of business. It is asking us for our network password. We contacted a person that worked for that company and he said that everyone had there own personal password. The computers all have windows 2000. is there any way that we are going to be able to use this computer? Is this password kept someplace with in the computer?

    Re: password

Passwords on NT based OSes (NT,Win2k,WinXp,Win2003) are encrypted and almost impossible to figure out without special tools. If you have the OS Cds your best bet is to reload the system. That way you can easily setup your own users and passwords. Otherwise, you might want to try NT password cracker - Google Search.

The best tool for this job is ERD Commander from winternals, but it's not cheap.

    Re: password

I am puzzled by your term "network password".

Is this a machine which you can power on and which boots successfully into Windows 2000? If yes, are you trying to add the machine into your domain? And then trying to log on to your domain with your own userid and password? The answers are different depending on which "password" you are referring to.

Please could you describe how far you get in the "startup process"..!
