    Controlling Window position (FF 1.0.6)

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Loungers

What I mean by "Controlling Window position" is the fact that anytime you change; load, or refresh; a page, that page is rendered with the scroll bars all the way to the top, and left. The Top Left Corner of the page is where things start, I know that...But!

Assume that you are looking at a changing figure, and each time you reload the page, you will need to scroll back down, or to the right, to view the area where that figure is.

Is there a way to send the scroll bar(s) position(s) to the new page, so that the page is rendered with the area of interest readily visible? This would cut down on scrolling, and can speed things up.

    Thanks

    Wassim

Are you authoring the page? If so, add a "bookmark" (technically, an "anchor") near the figure, and add the name to the URL. Example:

    In page:

    <a name="myFigure"></a>In the following figure...

    New URL: http://server/folder/document.html#myFigure

No I am not the author, I am the user.

I need to check a figure on a web page. It is a counter, and I need to keep refreshing the page to keep checking the counter.

As you know, each time I refresh, I will need to scroll down and that takes time. I also need to press some buttons to activate some scripts on that page, and they also are a bit below the top, so my scrolling is kinda special, so I can't simply click in the scroll bar and advance a single page worth.

I tried to manage the resolution of the screen, but I do work from multiple PCs and laptops, and some don't have the same levels

    Any other ideas?

    Cordially

Copy the page source and edit it so that it covers only that part of the page you are interested in viewing - in effect creating your own abbreviated version of the page.
Load it into FF and that's all you'll see - you simply have to hit F5 to refresh the counter (bearing in mind you may be incrementing it by a count of 1 each time you do so).

That sounds like a rather convoluted process. Weren't computers supposed to make life simpler?

Does your organization control the page so it can be redesigned to fit your needs? If not, perhaps the authors would oblige if you ask nicely. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Added: By the way, if you don't have a mouse with a "scroll wheel," you ought to requisition one. They are incredibly useful in cases like this.

    Hi Wassim

FireFox behaves for me just as you describe. If I scroll around on a web page, then refresh (reload) the page, it presents the refreshed page exactly where it was before the refresh.
It may be one of the many "Extensions" that I have installed that is providing this "feature".
Have you tried posting your question on a FireFox Forum such as Firefox General - MozillaZine Forums?

    Have a Great day!!!

    <img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15> Ken

For the link to the FireFox Forum. I posted the question there, and another one came to mind, so I posted it again.

I will add the replies I get to this thread, and see where we go.

By the way, a tip for all of you out there: Red meat is not bad for you. Fuzzy green meat is bad for you.

    Bye for now!!!
