Generic Host Process for Win32 Services (Home/SP2)

    Hello -

(This will be similar to my question on the Software Board re GoBack, but I think this is the more appropriate board.)

Have a brand new Dell Dimension 2400. Suddenly, when I boot, I get
"Generic Host Process for win32 Services encountered a problem and needed to close."

I cick on More Info and get
szappname: svchost.exe sczappver: 0.0.0.0 szmodname: unknown
    szmodver: 0.0.0.0 offset: 00000000.

    In Error report contents:
    Two lines
    COCUME~1NANCYM~1LOCALS~1TempWER dff.dir.dir 00svchost.exe.mdmp
The 2nd line is the same except for the ending, which is appcompat.txt

    Today these lines were
    COCUME~1NANCYM~1LOCALS~1TempWERdo63.dir00svchost.ex e mdmp
And the 2d the same except the ending, which was: appcompat.txt

I have done several scans and security scans. Clean.

I went to the Knowledge Base and saw the post Hans referred to. Didn't apply to my case. I've Googled. No help. Been on Dell's site, no help.

The computer runs ok after I close the window.

Have anyone else had the problem and found the fix??

Many thanks. (Dell says it's a software problem.)

    Hi -

I (believe I ) solved the problem by updating my printer driver.
