    Re-inventing the Wheel

An American magazine invited readers to come up with "retro breakthroughs"; those exciting products which specialize in providing inventions from times gone by to improve modern life. For instance, a hand-held word processor (a pencil). See if you can guess the items described here.

    1. Portable Arcade: Handheld amusement resource with no cartridges or batteries. Access games of speed, dexterity, memory and cunning. Produce magical effects or 3 dimensional constructions. Some games can increase your income.

    2. Graphic media emulator: High resolution, thin screen monitor produces near-perfect emulations of all graphic media. Use as cosmetic analyser.

    3. Virtual-reality device/entertainment center: No keys to press, no mouse to move. Touch-sensitive interface allows users to explore other worlds, civilizations and times. User-friendly, with random access. Current library includes millions of titles.

    4. Cellular personal computer: Self-expanding, easily programmable, compatible with Mac, IBM and all hand-held devices and palmtops. Comes with a life-time guarantee.

    5. Home security system: Continuous 86-decibel alarm scares off intruders and alerts neighbours. Though the unit can be difficult to control, it does provide peace of mind. It can assist in providing you with current news and sports results in the morning and even has some cardiovascular health benefits.

    6. Phone answering device: Eliminates annoying message menus. Courteously answers questions and directs incoming calls.
    Regards,
    Rudi

Good puzzle Rudi. Turned up to late to have a go at it (already answered by everyone else <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>), but like the idea. <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

    Good one Alan...

    I can see how No. 2 can work.... But how can I increase my income with a <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">box of matches??</span hide>

    Cheers

Sell them or hire them out on a <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold"> match by match basis</span hide> charging sale or return basis charging if damaged...easy

    Re: Re-inventing the Wheel

Come visit a working mans' pub in Australia Rudi. You could walk in, drop a fist full of gravel on the bar and announce "Right, who's up for a game?" In no time you'd have half a dozen blokes around you with money flashing, ready to bet on whatever it is we're betting on today!

    Alan

Sorry, back to the question... "matches" is a popular Aussie pub betting game. Each player has 4 matches, and can conceal any number (0-4) in the outstretched fist. The idea is to guess the total number of matches in the total of fists. You can't use a number already used in that round. If anyone guesses correctly, they discard one of their total matches. The game continues until someone (the winner) has no matches left. He then collects the $$$ bet.
