    Index Error (2002)

When trying to open an Access database, I receive the following error "AOIndex is not an index in this table. I am unable to compact the database or to import the objects from it. I have gone back to another copy but have lost some of the changes that were made to the database. Has anyone encountered this error before or know if there is a way to open the database in spite of the error and then remove any indexes that might be causing the problem?

There are hundreds of newsgroup posts about this error message, but no clear pattern emerges.

You might try importing data from the database into Excel, using Data | Import External Data | New Database Query. Sometimes ODBC can still get at data that Access itself cannot retrieve any more.

Thanks I was able to get to the most important table containing the data my backup did not have by importing it into Excel.
