    Displaying Embedded Object (Office 2000)

I have a Word 2000 user with a very large document with many embedded Excel charts. She is unable to view the charts as charts in the document although in print preview they appear. She in working in print layout view and her Excel charts appear not as icons, but with the words embedded object. (I'm getting this over the phone so think that's right!) I can't duplicate the problem on a Word 2000 PC in our office or on my Word 2003 PC. She doesn't have the picture placeholder option selected nor has she asked to display object as icon. Any suggestions on what's going on or how she can display her objects in her document as she works on them. Thanks much,
    Thanks much, Judy Crawford

Could it be a resources problem? Perhaps her PC doesn't have enough memory available to display the embedded objects in a view that can be edited.

Just in case she is viewing field codes, have her try Alt+F9 and see what happens. Either the chart will appear, or something else interesting may appear. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Thanks Hans, that was my best guess, too. I will check with the user when she is less stressed! Again, glad you are thinking as I am! Judy

OK, here's what my user did to correct the problem. It's something you gurus should remember. Don't think I'd have done it in a thousand years. But she did a system restore to sometime last week before she started having that problem, and all the charts/graphs and page numbering returned and appeared as normal. She tried F9 and that didn't do anything. Apparently, as I got the full picture from talking with her face to face today, not only did the embedded graphs not show, the page numbers didn't either. However, both showed when she did a print preview and when she printed. I've used system retsore for unusual system problems, but never for application issues--learn something every day!
