Partially missing defrag utility (XP SP-2)

In Properties/Tools for "Local Disk C:", the Defrag item says, "No defragmentation utility is currently installed". Yet, if I go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter, I can open the defrag utility and run it. How can the defragger be added back into the Tools menu?

Have you tried a System Restore? Or a repair install? Or SFC /scannow? Also, You could try to right click C:Windowsinfdfrg.inf and select Install.

    Joe,

Thanks for the salient information. Running the dfrg.inf file did the trick!

As an aside, do you know how to schedule the defrag in Windows XP? I'm assuming that one could create a new Task in "Scheduled Tasks" by pointing to the required file.

    Joe,

Once again, thanks! I did a search for this in MSKB and couldn't find a thing......
