    Although you'll still see the Visual Basic Editor flashing while the code is executed, you can hide it using

    Application.VBE.MainWindow.Visible = False

    I don't know of a VBE equivalent to Application.ScreenUpdating = False.

    Is there a way to keep focus on the excel workbook?

    Not that I know of, but I'm not an expert in using the Visual Basic for Applications Extensibility library.
