    Re: Lost Bullet (Excel 2003 sp2)

    Hi Don

    Thinking this through in the non coded world of copy and paste, this would happen normally. If there is an empty bullet it is ignored is there a way that a special character could be added at that bullet prior to your code being run.....or have I missed your point?

    Doesn't this post belong in the Word forum? I see nothing that relates to Excel except the subject...

    Lost Bullet (Word 2003 sp2)

    Subject edited by HansV to mention Word instead of Excel

    I have inherited a process that combines four documents into one. Each document has a summary and a detail.
    The summary information from each is placed up top and the detail at the bottom of the new document.
    The problem I am having is I'm dropping the bullet from the last paragraph in the detail paragraphs.
    Can anyone tell me how I can either ensure the capture of the bullet setting for that paragraph or determine the
    setting from the previous paragraph and apply it to the last paragraph.

    The code I am running follows:
    <pre> Windows(DOTDoc$).Activate
    ScreenUpdating = False

    If ActiveDocument.ProtectionType <> wdNoProtection Then
    ActiveDocument.Unprotect "XXXXXXXX"
    End If

    Selection.GoTo What:=wdGoToBookmark, Name:="CountySummary"
    Selection.EndOf Unit:=wdSection, Extend:=wdExtend
    Selection.MoveLeft Unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=2, Extend:=wdExtend
    Selection.Fields.Unlink
    Selection.Copy
    Windows(FullDoc$).Activate
    Selection.GoTo What:=wdGoToSection, Count:=1
    Selection.EndOf Unit:=wdSection, Extend:=wdMove
    Selection.InsertParagraph
    Selection.InsertParagraph
    Selection.Paste
    Windows(DOTDoc$).Activate
    ScreenUpdating = False
    Selection.GoTo What:=wdGoToSection, Count:=3
    Selection.EndOf Unit:=wdSection, Extend:=wdExtend
    Selection.MoveLeft Unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=1, Extend:=wdExtend
    Selection.Copy <font color=red>' This copy is not picking up the last bullet.</font color=red>
    Windows(FullDoc$).Activate
    Selection.GoTo What:=wdGoToSection, Count:=3
    Selection.EndOf Unit:=wdSection, Extend:=wdMove
    Selection.TypeParagraph
    Selection.Font.Bold = True
    With Selection
    .TypeParagraph
    .TypeText Text:="Transportation"
    .TypeParagraph
    End With
    Selection.Font.Bold = False
    Selection.Paste <font color=red>' Or this paste drops the last bullet </font color=red></pre>

    Thank you
    Don

    Re: Lost Bullet (Word 2003 sp2)

    Hi Jerry,

    I have four documents that come from four agencies for each or the 57 counties in NY State for a total of two 28 documents.
    (DOT, DOB,ENCON, & ECDEV) The documents contain a summary followed several detail paragraphs and there are sub
    headings within the details.
    This process opens the countyname_DOB.doc document for and saves it as countyname_full.doc.
    It then opens the i]countyname[/i]_Encon.doc, i]countyname[/i]_EVDEC.doc, and countyname_DOT.doc documnets.
    The summary for the ENCON document is retrieved first and then saved in the summary portion of countyname__Full.doc
    (Section one)
    The Label for the Detail , in this case 'Environmental Conservation' is inserted into the bottom of Section 3 and the detail from
    the ENCON document is copied and pasted. The original document has the last paragraph bulleted but I can't seem to keep
    it bulleted when I paste it.

    This is for the Governors' office so I have to figure out how to keep the bullet.

    Haven't tested this but could you replace:

    Selection.Copy
    Selection.Paste

    with

    Selection.CopyFormat
    Selection.PasteFormat

    in the relevant parts of the code

    This is just speculative but may do the job <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

    Re: Lost Bullet (Word 2003 sp2)

    When you copy, are you getting a paragraph mark at the end? If not, the text should take on the formatting of the paragraph it is pasted into. If the paragraph it is being pasted into does not have bullets, you should lose the bullet in that process. So... what to do. One option might be to add a paragraph break before the section break so that you can copy the last part as a paragraph. Or, you could apply the missing formatting to the new document after you paste, but this may be messier.

    Thank you,

    I put an extra blank bullet with no blank ending paragraph of just a blank paragraph at the end of the documents and the copy is working great.
